I'm with you es el décimo disco de estudio que lanzan los Red Hot Chili Peppers, y llega cinco años después del álbum doble Stadium Arcadium. Cuya creación ha estado marcada por la segunda salida del guitarrista John Frusciante, hecho que llevó al batería Chad Smith a hablar de: una nueva banda con el mismo nombre, y al bajista Flea a decir que se trataba de un renacimiento para ellos.
Para escuchar este trabajo he preferido no tener en cuenta sus discos anteriores para simular así qué pasaría si este álbum llegara a mis manos sin yo saber a qué grupo pertenece. Obviamente es difícil no reconocer el estilo de Red Hot Chili Peppers, pero considero que es más importante escuchar el disco hoy, con la mentalidad musical de hoy, para posteriormente apreciar si ha habido evolución o no. No creo que sea útil empezar a escuchar I’m with you pensando By the way era mucho mejor o Me gustaba más Dani California.
La primera canción de este I’m with you es Monarchy of roses. Tiene un inicio experimental, dando la sensación de que el grupo se está preparando para empezar a tocar. El efecto de la voz tampoco hace pensar que sea algo convencional. Sin embargo, tras varios versos el tema coge otro color, mucho más distendido, más alegre y con una onda disco muy bailable. A lo largo de los segundos se van alternando las partes experimentales con las normales, dando como resultado un efecto alivio muy interesante. Por cierto, primera canción y primer solo de guitarra de Josh Klinghoffer, bastante acertado. Lo mejor de la canción es la fuerza que gana al final.
Factory of faith es el segundo corte de este nuevo trabajo. El bajo es lo primero que entra en acción, quedando en un primer plano durante el resto de canción, una canción con unas estrofas medio rapeadas bastante extrañas y con un estribillo que no termina de convencer. Sin embargo, la cantidad de detalles que vamos escuchando hacen entretenida la escucha.
El siguiente tema en llegar es Brendan’s death song y lo hace con un arpegio de guitarra acústica muy bonito y la voz de Kiedis con mucha calidez y templanza. Conforme pasa el tiempo la canción va ganando ritmo y la melodía de la voz nos va arrastrando poco a poco hasta llegar a la parte instrumental, muy tribal. Destacaría especialmente los “ie ie” del final, que en concierto deben ser espectaculares cantados por el público. Es muy comercial, aunque puede llegar a resultar algo cansina si no te gusta la melodía principal.
Ethiopia vuelve a contar con una línea de bajo protagonista y un ritmo a destiempo que queda muy resultón junto a la línea de voz. Su ritmo y su esencia étnica atrapan desde el principio. Muy buen tema.
Annie wants a baby es muy dinámica, tiene muchos cambios y tiene arreglos de guitarra que compaginan perfectamente con la voz.
Look around tiene un estilo que mezcla el funk con un ritmo dance, al que también contribuye la línea de bajo. Su punto álgido es el estribillo, nada difícil de aprender y que seguro funciona bien entre los seguidores, aunque las estrofas son bastante pegadizas. Me gusta la parte instrumental, en la que se relaja el tempo y la guitarra juega un poco con los acordes.
The adventures of rain dance Maggie, como single cumple perfectamente con la tarea de agradar desde la primera escucha.
Did I let you know tiene una base rítmica muy de vacaciones en las Bahamas, con una batería que bien podría considerarse de reggaeton, aunque poco tiene que ver con ese estilo musical. Me gusta mucho su aire optimista, su estribillo melódico y la colaboración de Michael Bulger a la trompeta.
Goodbye Hooray empieza fuerte con una guitarra eléctrica ligeramente distorsionada y una base rítmica contundente, en la que Flea se despacha a gusto con slap incluido. La estructura de la canción evoluciona rápidamente, con cambios constantes, siendo un track que prácticamente se escucha solo hasta que llega una parte muy relajada, que sorprenderá y agradará.
En Happiness loves company encontramos a un invitado especial: el piano. Este instrumento, junto con la batería, el bajo y la voz conforman una mezcla que suena a una especie de rock clásico de cabaret. ¿Raro verdad? Sí, pero muy interesante de escuchar.
Aunque por el título podríamos haber deducido lo contrario, Police station es la balada del disco. Me gusta que todos los instrumentos se distingan tan claramente,también hay piano, por cierto, por lo que hay que destacar la labor de producción y sobre todo la buena composición para que todo suene tan armonizado.
Even you, Brutus? es un compendio de influencias del blues, del jazz y del funk que consiguen una canción original y con un ritmo que nos hará mover el cuerpo.
Meet me at the corner inicia con un lead de guitarra muy relajado y nos lleva hacia una canción muy suave y muy natural. Es quizá en la que más protagonismo tiene Josh, también es cierto que coincide en que el bajo pasa a un segundo plano.
Por último encontramos Dance, dance, dance que va en la onda optimista de Ethiopia, pero con un poco menos de brillo y de gancho. Creo que, para llamarse así, le falta un poco más de ritmo. Aún así, es un buena tema.
Como hemos podido comprobar se trata de un disco muy completo. Catorce canciones dan para mucho y Red Hot Chili Peppers han sabido improntar en cada corte una influencia y un sonido distinto. Desde un punto de vista industrial, hay que decir que este I’m With You es muy comercial y seguro que funcionan bien sus ventas. Sin embargo, también hay partes bizarras y que solo podrías esperar de un grupo como éste.
Por eso, ahora sí, si comparamos con discos anteriores nos daremos cuenta de que hay una evolución hacia un sonido más agradable, que tira mucho hacia el pop, pero siempre manteniendo el gusto por la música, la calidad en las composiciones y la elegancia en la ejecución. Recordamos que los músicos que forman Red Hot Chili Peppers tienen mucha experiencia y la música parece salirles sola.
Creo que es un álbum digno de escuchar con la intención de disfrutar de una hora de música trabajada y muy bien ejecutada.

Just one week after the Red Hot Chili Peppers made the initial announcement of tenth studio album "I'm With You" on its official website, the band has now released a full tracklist for the Aug. 30 set. It is as follows:

"I'm With You" will be the Chilli Peppers' first studio release since 2006's "Stadium Arcadium," a double album that sold 2.3 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It will also be their first since guitarist John Frusciante officially departed the band for a second time, in 2009. He was replaced by Josh Klinghoffer.
"I'm With You" is produced by Rick Rubin, who has produced the Chili Peppers' last five studio releases. In addition to "I'm With You," Rubin is also working on upcoming albums by Metallica and the Avett Brothers and most recently helmed Adele's "21."
Despite multiple reports that a lead single titled "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" (which does appear on the album) is slated for a July 18 release, a rep for the Chili Peppers tells Billboard.com that a single is still not confirmed.

My Dearest Daisy
A/N - We had just finished reading the book The Great Gatsby in Literature class at my school, and the teacher gave us an assignment. We had to pretend to be a character from the book, and we had to write to another character persuading them to do something. There were a whole bunch of scenarios the teacher suggested that we could use - and I decided to do a letter from Gatsby to Daisy. I think I really captured the essence of Gatsby's idealist nature in the letter, and I really had fun writing it. So, enjoy!
My Dearest Daisy,
You must forgive me, my dear, for I am afraid I have never been good with opening statements. Words simply cannot express the love I feel for you, and no matter how I start this letter, I am fearful that it would never truly capture my feelings for you. I wish that we could be together forever, and I wish that our love could be a bright light shining in the midst of a troublesome world. However, I know that this will never happen as long as you are married to Tom. He is keeping you away from me, and our relationship will never be what we wish it to be, as long as he is in your life. Daisy, I wish there was a gentler way of saying this. You need to leave Tom.
I see what Tom is doing to you, Daisy, and I know it not your fault that you ended up with a brute like him. You must know that I do not hold that against you, just that I am concerned of how he is treating you. He is abusive, Daisy. The bruises on your arm are all the proof I need to be convinced of that. I can only imagine that you must live in fear each day, wondering if and when he will strike you again. Tom is also harsh and mean. I see the way he talks to you and about you. He flies into a rage over the tiniest things that you say. He is always contradicting you, and he never listens to a word you have to say. When you do get a word in, he dismisses it and calls you a fool. That is not a fair way to treat a lady such as yourself. Furthermore, Tom is not devoted to you. Yes, Daisy, I know about his affair with Myrtle Wilson. Why he would ever dream of leaving someone like you is beyond me. These actions have made it clear to me that he does not, nor ever will, love you like I do. So why, Daisy, would you stay with a man who is no good for you?
Now Daisy, do you remember all the times we spent together? We have known each other for so long, and it feels as though we know each other inside and out. You were my first and only love, and that makes you so special in my sight. I know that you feel the same way about me; I can see it in your eyes and your smile. Do you remember all the picnics we had, talking all day long about our hopes, our fears and our dreams? We do not just know each other, we know each other's soul. We have developed a deep connection, which I believe, will never be broken. It is destiny that brought us together. Why should we let one man come between this very special bond that we have? We cannot just throw everything away because of him. Our love is destined, and it will happen no matter what, so why hinder it? You need to leave him. You need to let him know that he cannot prevent destiny.
Daisy, if you leave Tom, I promise to be all that he is not. I will touch those tender bruises, all those places where he has injured you, and I will heal them all with a gentle kiss. You know that you will never have to be afraid of me. I will never raise my hand to strike you, and you will never have to cower in fear because of me. I will be there to protect you from monsters like Tom, and I will never rest until you are safe. I will also never be harsh and mean to you. You will never be afraid to speak what is on your mind or on your heart. I will listen with the utmost of attention, and I will never contradict you or tell you that you are a fool. Last, but not certainly not least, I will be utterly devoted to you. I will never even look upon another woman, as long I have you in my life. Your beauty surpasses all others, and Tom, who does not believe this is fatally mistaken. I will fulfill all that he fails to accomplish for you, and I will love you with all of my heart.
So, my dearest Daisy, this is how I will leave the letter. The rest is up to you now. You must tell Tom that he is no good for you. You must tell him that you have already given your soul to another, who has promised you so much more than he has ever dared to promise. Then you must run away from him and into my loving arms, where I will be waiting to comfort you and care for you. There is nothing more I can say now. I can write until my pen runs out of ink, but I will never truly express all the love for you in my heart. So now Daisy, I leave you, and I am eagerly awaiting your return into my life.
